Red Ribbon Week – Making Your Celebration Work!

It’s almost here!!! The school year is just around the corner and with that comes the first BIG celebration week, Red Ribbon Week in late October. Red Ribbon Week is a week dedicated to creating awareness with kids across the nation to the realities of drugs and encouraging them to make the choice to live drug-free. Most schools adopt a variety of methods to create this awareness including Red Ribbon for kids to wear, classroom lessons, school signage declaring their school a “Drug-Free” zone and of course, special school assemblies. Having an exciting school assembly is a great way to give the kids a memory to attach good feelings with Red Ribbon Week and the messages delivered throughout.
I recommend doing a quick Google search to find resources and supplies to decorate your school with signage and other declaratory assets. To maximize your message you need to deliver your campaign with auditory, visual and kinesthetic activities and visuals. The more senses your students have engaged while discussing, learning and absorbing the material the more chances it will stick and make a profound impact. And what is the purpose of Red Ribbon Week? To have a real, quantifiable impact in kids lives!
Lastly, I recommend planning early. We all like to procrastinate, thinking we can pull it all together last minute. But we know how it works, life gets busy, we get distracted and sometime mid-October it dawns on you that nothing is planned. Then it’s panic time! Don’t let this happen to your school year, start the process today, research materials, supplies and [http://www.wheelsoffreestyle.com]School Assemblies you’d like to have for your big week.
Your students will learn valuable things throughout their school years, but it’s the special events and “standout” moments they will remember fondly for the rest of their lives. We have all had experiences that stand out and it’s not the day-to-day grind, it is the moments that “wow” us. We remember the friendships, the bonding and the inspiration we build our future around. Give your students a great Red Ribbon Week experience and they will take this important week with them for a lifetime.
